Caleb Caleb Takes the Promised Land

A great pup is the product of exceptional breeding. Over my 30 years in the dog business, I learned that dogs bred to compete produce the most intelligent, healthy and well-adjusted pets. 

Selective breeding such as that found in competition field trial  dogs means that each dog in each generation is chosen because it meets high standards of intelligence, drive, focus, calmness, dependability, athletic ability, trainability and stability.  Rather than breeding for coat, or color, the field trial dog is bred for smarts…in the house as well in the field as a hunting companion.  It is even said that these dogs are good chess players...it is certain that they are smarter than many of their owners.

The SplashDance foundation sire, Caleb Takes the Promised Land (Caleb), is the product of this kind of selective breeding. His pedigree contains a long line of historic field trial champions, some of the best to ever grace the field.  When the best is bred to the best for generations, the best is produced. Quality breeding is what SplashDance offers its puppy owners. 

The SplashDance Labrador is lean, long-legged, intelligent, focused and calm. It is at home in the family room and loves exercise, but It ADORES the water. In fact, watching a SplashDance pup dive, splash and retrieve on water is to witness the pure joy of living.  

Caleb was bred by Waterdog Kennels in Atlanta, Georgia, owned by Kristie and Joie Wilder (see their Profile in Purina's Today's Breeder). Waterdog bred its Master Hunter dam Waterdog's Trida Stop Me to Five Star General Patton, the 2003 National Field Trial Champion. Patton has bred many champions and “Allie”, the mother, has qualified more than once for the AKC Master Hunter  Nationals. Patton’s father, NAFC FC AFC (*meaning of titles)  Ebonstar Lean Mac, has produced more field trial champions than any other Labrador in history.  Allie’s grandmother is another all-time-great Labrador Retriever, NFC NAFC FC AFC Candlewoods Tanks A Lot.   

Having owned dogs for field trial, show ring and hunting, having been a professional dog trainer and breeder, I've experienced all sporting breeds and hundreds of dogs. None compare to Caleb. He has it all:  bloodlines, personality and athletic ability. He is the perfect at-home pet  ...a happy soul, gentle, obedient , 

intelligent and calm. 

 When working, Caleb is focused, dispatching tasks with fervor and will. But, he does not dig in the backyard, get into trash or tear up the house when left alone all day.  His childlike exuberance lights up the lives of all around him, yet he is serene and patient, gentle with smaller dogs and children.

Breeding rarely and carefully

• The first consideration in the SplashDance breeding program is genetic quality.  We are very careful not to breed known carriers of genetic eye, muscle or other defects.
• Dams have been carefully chosen to compliment Caleb and add value to the genetic pool.
• SplashDance temperament is equal to performance, breeding  puppies that are neither too soft nor too wild.  Our goal is cooperative puppies that are good team players with lots of drive to retrieve, be it at play, competition or sport.
